POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Orange trailed the Golden Knights by just one goal at the end of the second period. However, No. 5 Clarkson (16-0-2, 5-0-1 ECAC) potted four tallies in the final frame to seal the series sweep against Syracuse women’s ice hockey (3-12-2, 0-5-1 CHA) in a 5-0 victory. SU is still looking for its first victory since October 14th versus RPI.

In the opening period, Clarkson continued its relentless pressure from Tuesday night, controlling possession and putting a lot of shots on the Syracuse goal. Allie Kelley made multiple saves despite the lengthy possession of the puck in the Orange defensive end. The Golden Knights finally cashed with three minutes left in the frame after a one-timer by Brooke McQuigge to put Clarkson on the board first.

Each team had a chance to score in transition at the halfway point of the second half. Clarkson created a 3-on-1 rush towards the SU net, but Kelley made a stop by flashing the leather. On the next faceoff, Rayla Clemons had a one-on-one with Julia Minotti, but Minotti stopped her and then stopped another skater off the rebound.

Both teams had penalties in the closing seconds of the second period, therefore the third began with a 4-on-4. The Knights were on a power play as the 4-on-4 came to a conclusion, and they quickly capitalized. Ninety seconds in, Anne Cherkowski finished some Clarkson passes.

The first even-strength goal of the game came three minutes in when Kirstyn McQuigge took a wrist shot from a stride short of the dot in the left circle to beat Kelley on the stick side to put the Golden Knights up 3-0.

Tatum White drew a double minor for slashing and hooking penalties less than a minute later. Following that, Clarkson opened the floodgates as Haley Winn sent the puck through traffic to the other post, where Cherkowski was waiting on the doorstep for her second goal.

Laurence Frenette finished things off with a snipe from the top of the right circle.
