MADISON, W.I. –  The sixth-ranked Syracuse men’s cross country team continued their strong regular season by finishing third at Wisconsin’s Nuttycombe Invitational behind No. 1 Northern Arizona and No. 3 BYU.

The invitational featured seven of the country’s top nine-ranked teams, including fellow top-10 ACC programs North Carolina and Notre Dame. This was the highest finish at Nuttycombe for the Orange since also taking third in 2017, and the best in Head Coach Brien Bell’s tenure.

Redshirt senior Perry Mackinnon led the way for the Orange, completing the 8000-meter course 23:46.1 to finish 19th. Fellow redshirt senior, Paul O’Donnell, finished right behind him in 20th at 23:48.9.  The rest of the scoring five placed in the top 106 adding to the team total of 251 points.

The Orange will next toe the line at the John Reif Memorial hosted by Cornell, on Friday, October 20.  Following that final tune-up of the regular season, SU will head down to Tallahassee, Florida for the ACC Championships on October 27.  The Orange will enter the ACC champions as the likely favorite to win the title for the first time since 2019.
