RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 24 Syracuse (7-4-3, 1-3-2 Atlantic Coast) conceded a goal in the 90th minute and eventually drew No. 21 NC State (8-4-3, 2-3-2) 1-1 on the road Saturday night.
The Wolf Pack broke up the SU clean sheet with 24 seconds when Brad Sweeney drilled a free kick from 19 yards out to send the game to overtime. Neither side was able to find a game winner in the two overtime periods as the Orange drew its second-straight game on the road after relinquishing a lead.
SU scored its lone goal off another set piece as senior midfielder Hugo Delhommelle connected with sophomore defender Sondre Norheim on a corner kick in the first five minutes for the second game in a row. Norheim now has three goals in the last two games and five on the year.
The Orange outshot the Wolf Pack 19-12 in the contest and 7-6 in shots on target. NC State outshot Syracuse 4-3 in the two 10-minute overtime periods.
It’s a quick turnaround for the Orange, they stay on the road to play their second to last game of the season Tuesday at Clemson. The original match date was postponed earlier in the season because of the effects of Hurricane Florence, kickoff for Tuesday is set for 7 p.m.
