Syracuse women’s soccer (4-4-4, 0-3-1 in ACC) lost in a 1-0 decision against California (6-1-5, 2-0-1 in ACC) in Berkeley Thursday night. Cal junior Soleil Dimry snuck one through in the 65th minute of action. Her goal was the only tally of the night, keeping SU winless in conference play.

The Golden Bears dominated in the early going, recording the game’s first four shots. Eventually, ‘Cuse senior Mia Klammer got a quality touch on the ball, shooting high toward the middle of the goal, forcing Cal keeper Teagan Wy to make the save.

At the half, it was a stalemate. It marked the sixth straight half in which Syracuse did not score. The Orange had to break the ice in the second half, but the shot opportunities were not there, as the Golden Bear defense walled off any development for the offense.

Cal, meanwhile, had dominated shots, to the tune of 14-3, but were not finding the back of the net. However, in the 65th minute, Cal’s Elhom Khursand dribbled up the right side. She beat ‘Cuse defender Bree Bridges, turned toward the box, and when SU’s Natalie Magnotta came to try to poke it away, Khursand dished to an open Soleil Dimry, who softly touched it past the goal line.

It was once again a respectable defensive effort from the Orange. The back line of Bridge, Magnotta, and Jasmine Nixon were workhorses, playing all 90 minutes. However, today’s game was an opportunity for Syracuse goaltender Shea Vanderbosch to become the program’s all-time saves leader. She entered the day eight stops away from 345 career saves, which would’ve been the record, set by Courtney Brosnan in 2017. Vanderbosch finished with six stops on the evening, meaning she’ll have to wait until her next outing to make history.

That next contest comes against No. 3 Stanford in Palo Alto. For live updates of that game and Vanderbosch’s chase for history, follow @Cole_Purvis and @CitrusTVSports on X.
