DURHAM, N.C.- The Syracuse Women’s Soccer team has had a tough first season for head coach Nicky Adams. One of the team’s biggest problems has been its inability to win away from the SU Soccer Stadium.

The Orange played their final road match of the season on Sunday, and No. 9 Duke (8-1-7, 3-0-6) soundly defeated Syracuse (3-11-2, 1-7-1 Atlantic Coast) 4-1. With the loss, SU finishes the year 0-8-1 on the road with the lone draw coming during a 1-1 match in Pittsburgh.

Syracuse actually opened the scoring as Sydney Brackett picked up her first goal of the season in the 31st minute with a shot to the upper right corner.

It was all Blue Devils from there. Caitlin Cosme hit her own shot to the upper right off the feed from Karlie Paschall for the equalizer four minutes later.

In the second half, Duke pulled away when Julia Hannon took a pass from MaryKate McGuire and buried it in the lower left in the 56th minute.

Tess Broade’s took her turn off a Delaney Graham pass in the 68th minute, and McGuire finished the job in the 76th minute when Graham and Lilly Nabet set it up.

Syracuse was outshot 20-7, in what has become a recurring problem for the Orange.

Nicky Adam’s squad will wrap up its season at home on Halloween in a matchup with No. 1 Virginia (14-0-3, 6-0-3 Atlantic Coast).
