TALLAHASSEE, FL – Syracuse softball faced a tough loss in their series finale against No. 6 Florida State on Sunday afternoon, losing 8-0. The Seminoles, who are the defending Atlantic Coast Conference champions, hit three home runs, the most by any Syracuse opponent in a single game this season.
Junior pitcher Lindsey Hendrix started in the circle for the second time this series but struggled, allowing four earned runs on nine hits in just three innings. The Orange struggled to get anything going offensively, logging just two hits from outfielders Angie Ramos and Madelyn Lopez.
The Seminoles took an early lead in the second inning after an Orange fielding error allowed a leadoff runner on second base. A squeeze bunt from infielder Devyn Flaherty scored the opening run, putting Florida State up 1-0.
The hosts tagged on three more runs in the third inning, with outfielder Kalei Wacaser hitting a solo home run to deep left field to start the frame. Back-to-back hits from infielders Bethany Keen and Josie Muffley added two more runs, putting the Seminoles up 4-0.
In the fourth inning, infielder Kalei Harding drove a ball to left field for Florida State’s second home run of the game, bringing the score to 5-0. A walk from infielder Katie Dack and Wacaser’s third hit of the day set the table for a three-run home run from outfielder Jahni Keer, bringing the final score to 8-0 in favor of the Seminoles.
Syracuse will look to bounce back in their midweek doubleheader against Canisius on Wednesday, March 22, with both games streaming live on ESPN+. The Orange will then resume ACC play on Friday, March 24, against Notre Dame.
