Syracuse Softball Splits Doubleheader Against UAlbany

ALBANY, NY – Today’s doubleheader for Syracuse Softball fit the mold of the season so far. The Orange dropped game one, 5-0, and won game two 5-4 in extra innings. In game one, the offense wasn’t completely asleep like it has been sometimes this season. The ‘Cuse accumulated five hits and had one walk, but all six runners were stranded. The pitching was solid, with Madison Knight tying her career high in strikeouts with seven. The Issue for Knight though was that whenever a UAlbany player reached base, they scored. Knight gave up three hits and three runs. Kaia Oliver then came in, in relief, and had a similar outing. Oliver allowed two runs on two hits and a walk in 1.1 innings of work out of the pen.
After the loss in game one, the ‘Cuse needed a bounce back in game two. A sweep would have been demoralizing after the first ACC series win of the season last weekend. Lucky enough, the bats came alive in game two. But, not until the late innings. Syracuse did score the first run of the game in the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead. But then UAlbany scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding lead. S-U never gave up though, tying the game in the top of the sixth on a Geana Torres two-run home run, the first homer of the season for Torres. That sent the game into extra innings. There, Angel Jasso led off and hit a single down the right field line to send home Kelly Breen, the runner at second. The Great Danes got close to tying the game in the bottom of the 8th, getting runners on first and third but Lindsey Hendrix worked her way out of the jam to come out with the victory.
Up next, Syracuse takes on North Carolina in another ACC series that gets underway on Friday at 6 p.m.
