AKRON, OHIO– Syracuse (4-4-1, 0-3 Atlantic Coast) picked up a much needed victory on the road Monday night over Akron (4-4-1, 0-0 Mid-American) 3-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Jonathan Hagman.

After putting up five goals and 11 points in his junior season, the senior from had not registered a point in his 2018 campaign before Monday night’s offensive explosion.

Hagman, who finished second on the team in points in 2016 and 2017, had never scored a hat trick in his collegiate career before Monday night. His first goal of the game came in the 29th minute when Tajon Buchanan played a ball into the box that Hagman buried home.

The connection continued between the pair in the 52nd minute when Buchanan’s shot was deflected and fell to Hagman’s foot, where he capitalized.

Minutes later Severin Soerlie crossed a ball into the box that looked like it would trickle out of bounds, but Hagman put a boot on it before it could go out to cap off a career night.

The Zips did score in the 85thminute, spoiling the clean sheet for SU.

Akron outshot Syracuse 20-10 in the contest, but the Orange were able to put more shots on target, edging the Zips by a  margin of 6-5.

Now back at .500 on the season, SU faces a big challenge later in the week when they return back home and back to ACC play to take on No. 1 Wake Forest (10-0, 4-0) Friday with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
