Syracuse made their record 10-1, with a winning streak of 3 over Jackson State. Jackson State has yet to win a match this season, but still made Syracuse prove themselves today. The Tigers took the first set with a five point lead, but the Orange ended up with a comfortable victory. In set three, SU led by 13 points and then secured the fourth set 25-19. Syracuse found their groove, won their second match of the weekend, and obtained their tenth win of the season before conference matchups begin.

SU players Marina Markova and Polina Shemanova carry on throughout the strong season with standout performances. Markova led her second match in a row in kills with 19. Shemanova wasn’t far behind with 15 total kills. Shemanova led both teams today with four aces and 19 digs as well. On the defensive end, junior Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk’s showing cannot go forgotten. Lokhmanchuk led today with four blocks, just one shy of her season high of five blocks against Iowa a week ago. It will be interesting to see if these three team carriers can increase their season highs moving into ACC matches.

The Orange’s win today bumped themselves up in the ACC rankings to fourth in the table before conference matchups even begin. Syracuse’s first conference match is against east coast rivals, Boston College this coming week. The Eagles are currently ranked 12th in the ACC table with a record of 10-4. The only mutual opponent that the Orange and the Eagles have shared this season is Hartford. Both teams grabbed victories, however, Syracuse completed the win in the first three sets rather than going into four like BC. As Syracuse approaches their conference season, they have some great challenges ahead of them and many suspected close matches.
