After tough offensive outings against Clemson and Colgate, Syracuse (19-17, 4-11 Atlantic Coast Conference) bounced back with 17 runs on 19 hits over Seton Hall on Saturday which included a 8 run seventh inning in game one.

Game 1

Game one started very slow with not a lot of upside. However in the Bottom of the second, Erin Howard got the scoring started with a solo home run to left center. Three batters later, Taylor Hill doubled, scoring another run and the Pirates had an early lead.

The third saw more scoring for Seton hall but not because of its bats. SU’s Lindsey Hendrex led the inning with a hit by pitch and then gave up a single. Britney Lewinski tried to come into the game and change the situation, but three walks in 5 batters scored another 2 runs for the Pirates.

Syracuse would get on the board in the fourth due to a double from Laila Morales-Alves that scored 2. However, Seton Hall would get one back in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the fifth, SU started to see Seton Hall’s Kelsey Carr a little bit better. The Orange tallied two hits, a walk and a sac fly to bring in another 2. The Pirates wouldn’t clap back in the same frame, but in the sixth, Seton Hall put up a walk and 3 straight hits to add another 3 runs and take a comfortable 8-4 lead going into the seventh.

Then SU turned on the burners. Madelyn Lopez drew a lead off walk allowing Taylor Posner to smash her 11th homer of the season to cut the deficit in half. Kelly Breen and Madison Knight followed that with back to back singles who scored via a Morales-Alves double. That tied the game at 8-8

The Pirates tried to change pitchers hoping to stop the bleeding but Syracuse said otherwise. Makenzie Foster walked and stole second allowing Vanessa Flores to single in 2 more runs and take its first lead of the game. Rebecca Clyde recorded the first out of the inning but Angel Jasso singled, scoring another. Jasso then scored on a sac fly and Seton Hall got out of the inning down 4.

The Pirates tried to mount a comeback thanks to a Taylor Hill’s leadoff homer. However The Orange changed to Julianna Verni and she closed out the game for the save.

Game 2

The Orange offense didn’t cool down a bit. Jasso started the game with a double and Madelyn Lopez singled to put runners on early. Posner hit a sac fly, scoring Jasso and moving Lopez to second. Madison Knight then singled to center which scored Lopez.

The Pirates would quickly respond thanks to back to back jacks from Taylor Hall and Kelsey Carr. However the rest of the lineup struck out and SU got back to the plate.

Tessa Galipeau and Taylor Davison led the second off with a single and a double. Then Peyton Schemmer doubled with another 2 runs.

Madison Knight added to a good day at the plate with a dominant day in the circle. She struck out 6 batters in 3.2 innings pitched including 2 in the second. However, in the third, Knight gave up a walk and a double allowing the Pirates to notch another run.

The Orange would respond in the Top of the 4th thanks to a triple from Angel Jasso. That gave SU a 2 run lead with 3 innings left.

After that it became a pitchers duel. Syracuse’s Julianna Verni only allowed 2 hits and in over 2 innings while Linsdey Hendrix got the save. For Seton Hall, Sydney Babik passed the ball to Kyra Kreuscher who went perfect in the last 2 innings.

The Orange pulled out a double header victory and a much needed series win while they can pick up a sweep tomorrow at noon.
