Syracuse women’s soccer (4-5-4, 0-3-1 in ACC) suffered another beatdown against third-ranked Stanford (9-1-1, 3-0-1 in ACC), losing 4-0 in Palo Alto on Sunday.

Stanford was led by leading scorer Allie Montoya, as well as senior Jasmine Aikey, who each collected both a goal and an assist.

Despite the loss, a Syracuse star stamped her legacy today. Goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch picked up her 435th career save, putting her in first place in SU history in that category. The senior passes previous record holder Courtney Brosnan, who graduated in 2017.

The Cardinal started this game off with nothing short of a bang. Just 55 seconds in, senior Andrea Kitahata tested Vanderbosch, shooting low right, and getting it to roll through. This was the first time the Orange had allowed a goal in the first minute all season.

Stanford did not take its foot off the gas, however. In the eighth minute, the Cardinal made it 2-0 when Eleanor Klinger received a pass into the box from Montoya. Klinger made a nifty play, tapping the ball in with her back heel, and it rolled through the left side. Just eight minutes in, this game had the feel of one that would go off the rails.

After dishing one out earlier, Montoya got into the scoring column later in the contest. Her 11th minute score, assisted by Elise Evans, made it 3-0. Evans lofted one airborne into the box, and Montoya, standing in line with the right post, stuck her foot out, volleying the ball out of the air, and redirecting it into the net.

The final blow came right out of the halftime break in the 46th minute. Aikey was standing in the box, feet from Vanderbosch, and received a high-lofting pass. Aikey fooled the ‘Cuse keeper, softly touching the ball over Vanderbosch’s shoulder to make it 4-0. That score would be the final.

Syracuse’s offense has been nonexistent recently, going without a tally in the last four games. Stanford outshot SU 36-5 today. If there is a positive to take away, it’s that those five shots were all on goal.

Syracuse finishes the toughest part of its schedule, playing three top-10 teams in four games. Next up is Clemson at home on Saturday night.
